About
About this old record player
oldrecordplayer.com is a virtual walnut record console that only plays Purrple Cat records, plus a guide to the real machines that inspired it.
The music
Purrple Cat is a solo lofi project that started in December 2018 with the album Up All Night. Since then: 500+ songs, 500M+ streams and 425K followers. Mostly instrumental (the Memories EP and Please Hold Me have vocals), and no face reveal, just the purple cat on the covers.
The player
LPs are shown as 12-inch records at 33⅓, and singles and EPs as 7-inch records at 45, with the tracks split into side A and side B. The tonearm’s position follows how far through the side you are. No crackle, hiss or wow is added; you hear each track exactly as released.
Questions
- Is this a real record player?
- It’s a virtual one. Pick a record from the crate and it plays on the turntable in your browser: the platter spins, and the tonearm travels across the side as the music plays, like the real thing.
- Whose records are in the crate?
- Every one is a self-released record by Purrple Cat: 35 records and 356 tracks, in release order from Up All Night (December 7, 2018) onward.
- Is fake vinyl crackle added?
- No. Every track plays exactly as it was released, full length. The crackle is left to real records.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Listen to everything in full and download any track as an MP3. No account and no ads.
- Can I use the music in my videos or streams?
- Yes. Free to use with credit on all social media platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, Facebook, X…), and livestreams are fine. Neither the music nor remixes, samples or covers of it may be uploaded to music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music, because that causes false Content ID claims. - Can I buy these records on vinyl here?
- No. These are digital releases shown as virtual records; nothing is sold on this site.
- Where do I learn about real old record players?
- Read the guide: how they work, the eras from Edison to today, care, and what to check when buying one.
